S01E01 Welcome to the Hellmouth

There's a new girl in town, and old vamp in underground, and a big book on a desk.

I liked!

1. Charisma! Some of the main cast take a bit to find their feet, but Cordy hits the ground running with some cruel bitchiness.
2. Joyce — she gets so little screentime and does so much with it.
3. Buffy & Giles' dynamic: "Aren't you just going, 'Ooh'?"
4. The Master. This is a close one, but he's just the right side of campy.

I disliked!

1. This and The Harvest are both slow to get going. Exposition-heavy.
2. Willow and Xander interacting: the vibes are off, definitely some teething pains.
3. Scared Willow :( and how mean Cordy is to her, too — what a bitch!

Rating

It's a serviceable start! Darla's opening sets the tone for the show really well, Luke and the Master are suitably threatening — but not a high point.
